Hello and welcome to this page in our world of fragrances.
There are two types of wicks you might find inside a soy or vegetable oil candle: cotton or wood.
Within these two broad categories, there are countless variations in shape and thickness—from raw cotton to white cotton, some already waxed and others plain. Not to mention the wooden wicks, which come in a wide variety of shapes: rolled up to look like a huge wood shaving, cross-shaped, or straight.
But what's different?
First and foremost, the act of burning, but also the romantic effect of wood as it burns—the crackling sound that strongly resembles what happens in a lit fireplace and thus evokes distant, pleasant memories.
